Hello Dubai!

I am currently sitting at Dubai Airport, it is 8am, and I am too scared to go and buy food because I don't know how much everything costs!

Asides from that, I have so far had a successful journey. Mum, Dad, Larissa and Mark S all came to see me off in Auckland, was a bit emotional, but not as intense as I expected; crying is so overrated, it's easier not to!
For the first leg of my NZ to Dubai flight, which stopped in Brisbane for an hour or two, I was sat next to a couple that didn't talk much, so we just ignored each other for the duration of the trip (I had to hold on to go to the bathroom in Brisbane, because I didn't want to ask them to move for me). Our landing was delayed because of air traffic or something, so we circled around for a while, and I have to say touching down wasn't as smooth as I expected it to be.

Emirates food is super yum, but they give you way too much! Breakfast on the second flight was my fave, with a hot croissant, fresh watermelon, a bun with jam + butter, and scrambled eggs with a hash brown, mushrooms, and baked beans... mmmm.

The entirety of the flight from Brisbane to Dubai (14 hours), was spent in the dark, as we were chasing the setting sun (or rather, the morning was chasing us). So that made me quite confused each time I awoke, as I didn't know what the time was in NZ, or anywhere for that matter... I was completely lost in time! Luckily I had the three seats to myself on this flight, so I had three pillows, three blankets, and leg room to lie down horizontally! It became quite cold at times, so I curled up with the chocolate mum gave me, wrapped myself in a couple of blankets, and watched Puss in Boots! Comfort in the sky much? Who needs first class?

One of the best parts so far is the fact that when I was boarding in NZ, the attendant commented on how pretty my handwriting was (in my passport) - nothing like a compliment to make everything okay.
Take off was interesting for me, I am not the biggest fan of flying, if you have read my older post about this, so the sudden acceleration had me fearing my life, trying to concentrate on breathing, and then finally realising I was alive and in the sky. I actually enjoyed the second take off, so maybe I don't mind flying so much now.

The airport that I am at was initially overwhelming... shops everywhere, people speaking in a multitude of languages, and so many people all going about their business, looking much more collected than myself. All I could do is stand in one spot, turn around a bit, then chose a direction to walk in, until I orientated myself with my surroundings.

Right, my stomach is begging me to go and buy something, so I will brave the unknown, and then find a seat in the zen garden to relax in.

I have about 5 more hours to wait until I board my flight to Kolkata,

18 hours.

I don't really feel like writing much today. The second to last photo, although taken in a moment of hilarity with Larissa and Lyd, depicts just how I feel: a blur of emotions.

I leave in just under 18 hours.

Oh, Rachel Ward won the competition - the number randomiser came up with 7.

New Camera!

These photos are all taken on my new camera that I will be bringing with me to India! Hopefully it will be better at capturing colour and excitement than my old one.

We have been really lucky to have our relative's friends over for the weekend, it is always so nice to meet new people, and one's that you know you will continue to stay in touch with.
Full credit goes to Laura A for the photo on the right. We took these on our walk through the salt-marsh!
Malibu! He is very posh.
Beautiful sunset from the Strand!
We were taken out to De Bier Haus for dinner last night by our new Aussie friends!
Lisa, Jack and Chris - these people are so awesome!
Yay for family shots! (Minus the cow-milking brother).
Bretzels! Yummmm.
My yummy mummy. I love this photo of her!
Chris' epic mussel pot!
It was sad to see this family off, but they are continuing with their journey through NZ, and then onto America, Vietnam and more! We will definitely be catching up with them in the future.

4 more sleeps!

Hey Cow!!

Have you ever played 'Hey cow?'.
It involves driving past a heard of cows, shouting at the top of your lungs 'hey cow!', and trying to get them to look at you. The game is relatively pointless, unless you are lacking self-esteem and want someone/something to notice you.

But on that note, I went to Reporoa with mum yesterday to visit my brother, see where he works, and to say my farewells. He is a dairy farmer, and so we were lucky enough to be surrounded by hundreds of pooping and coughing cows.

Enjoy.
McD's hotcakes and yesterday's cooler Tauranga morning with my lovely, mini-friend Kirsten :)
The beautiful sunset at my brother's house last night.
Geared up and ready to go! And the sun rising while we follow behind Joe on the quad.
The second heard coming up the run to be milked!
What can I say, besides the excretions, I love cows!
Joseph showing me the ropes...
Then showing us how it is done professionally. And mum's turn!
Yummy pie at this awesome cafe on our way home! These were the gimpiest cutlery ever.
Proof of the tornado-cloud that momentarily made my heart stop (I have an intense fear of tornadoes. No seriously, I have had about 4 nightmares with them involved this year).
Time is of the essence now in New Zealand for me, with just 5 nights to go in this beautiful country.
I still have to pack, see a few more friends, and do everything to avoid getting anxious about my flights and the dreaded farewells at the departure gates.

I just spent a lovely late-afternoon wander with Laura, testing out my new camera, and talking about how to tell the difference between male and female crabs.

Oh, my visa totally arrived today. One thing more to thank God for - lessened stress levels!

On Sunday I sucked up my fears and spoke at both the morning and evening services at my church, (the night time effort was much better I feel), and then I had a huge big cry with Britt. Ugh. I'm going to miss so many of you! But a year will go fast, right?

I know there are still a few people who I want to catch up with, but as time is short, I am not entirely sure I will be able to make promises for all of these friends of mine. So I appologise in advance if I have to cancel any catch-ups, or turn down any requests!

Two more posts and then a giveaway! :)

A beautiful gift.

On Friday night, mum's friend Donna gave me this beautiful necklace!
And what is so special about it you might ask?
The designs on either side are my own that were submitted to Charles Parsons! (My two favourites).

I was so excited when I opened this!!

Today marks the one-week countdown ("Oh my gosh, is this even happening to me?!"), and my nerves are intense, my gut thinks it is an acrobat flipping every time I think about India, and my nights are restless.

But I am excited! I mean, I have been dreaming of India for so long, and it is finally going to become reality.

Can you help me?

In a moment I am going to list a few items I want/need for my move to India (in just 8 sleeps!!!), that you might be able to help me with etc... but first I want to share just a few photos from the past day seeing as I didn't post anything yesterday!
Melissa suggested I freeze grapes to eat and oh my goodness they are amazing. Do it.
Mum and I went out for lunch today, and it was SO yum! For dessert we ordered a chocolate truffle (it was huge), and this cute lime tartlet. Yummy!
And mum and I both ordered these chicken/apricot/cheese + turkish bread meals. So. Good.
We took a chance to work out how things are going financially. Because there are so many of you that have offered support in this area, I want to keep it quite transparent, to show where things are going to! We worked out that it is actually up to about $10,000 which is just under what I will need (between 12-13 grand), so not too bad!! Thank you to everyone who has helped out - I am so grateful! A couple of items are blurred out because I didn't know if the people who donated the money would like to be known etc.
Today I also had the absolute pleasure of catching up with Christine at the tea shop on Devonport Road - we ordered sweet cinnamon tea = heaven in a cup. I am so guttered that I am not going to be in NZ for when she gets married! Ugh. These small sacrifices that I have to take can sometimes make it harder to leave.
MAIL! I received a few letters today, one from Cat with a 'Life survival kit', one from Germany, and one from the Netherlands! I love mail and I was so excited to get these! Also another important letter I received was from IRD saying that they have granted me 12-24 month intrest-free student loan (usually if you are overseas longer than 6-months you have to pay interest).
My 100th post is coming up soon... I am thinking I will do a giveaway to celebrate this milestone! Leave a comment if you think yay or nay on this idea. If people aren't keen I wont bother haha.

Okay, so returning to the original purpose of this post, can you help me out?
If you have any of these things below, and you are willing to part with them for a year or permanently (I can pay a bit of money in some situations if needed), please let me know! It will just be one other way of reducing costs:
- a plain, white mosquito net without holes
- any unused 35mm film canisters for my old Minolta camera
- an old/spare external hardrive
- an old ipod that has decent battery life but in any condition! The battery life on mine lasts about 1hr if I am lucky!
- anything else you might think could be of use!

So yeah, it would be amazing if anyone has any of these handy, that they aren't planning on using in the near future, or you know is just going to sit around gathering dust!

My anxiety levels are creeping up as each day passes, I just cannot believe that I am leaving in a short 8 sleeps... time is flying by so quickly! But I cannot wait to experience this country that I have been dreaming of since I was about 13.
