Parliament of Owls.

As Parachute Music Festival draws nearer and nearer, my stress levels are getting higher and higher! I have so much more to do before it... this Saturday is when I will be selling my wares.

By the way, if you just happen to be at Parachute on Saturday, please stop by and say hello?
The Indie Market is going to be between Mainstage + M-Road (opposite the Lake).
Look for Chaos + Colour!
Some bits and bobs...
The epic map-flags that Sinead, Lydia, Britt + Nathanaelle have all helped me to create! Thank you all so much!
One of the helpers in action! Woo Sinead!
Slowly getting there... they are now waiting to be stuffed, stitched, nose-d, eye-d, and named.
They remind me of the inflatable kiddie-punching bags that you can never knock to the ground...
I thought you all might want to have a look at this freaky puppet mum hauled out from the bottom of a cupboard. I used to play with this. No wonder my mind is a mess sometimes... haha. By the way, this is one-half of the Punch + Judy duo (Punch).
Mum also found these old mix-and-match cards where there are about 20 different characters and you can either match them all up, or mix them. They were so much fun as a kid! What I love about them is that they are all from different times (the costumes they wear), and also in different classes (poor/middle/rich etc.).
Just look how amazing the illustrations are!
Some of my bounty :)
I managed to rope an anonymous man into modeling this lace collar. (And just to clarify, it is not my brother - my brother shaves haha).
So everything is slowly coming together, and I know that it will all be okay in the end :)

Crafting up a storm.

Tea and apricot yoghurt to keep me awake in the mornings! This particular yoghurt is one my nan always used to have, and it continues to make me think of her and how she is whenever I have some.
Working on some paper-crafts + design! These are some of my map-envelopes + note cards, aswel as my 'business' cards that I have designed. Thank you to Nathanaelle and Sinead for helping me cut these out! Lydia has also been a star and lent a hand when it came to cutting things out.
Finishing off my flags!
These are going to be chalk-board necklaces eventually. Thank you Marcus for lending me the paint for this! Legend.
Chalkboard-in-a-frame.
My second sketch to print.
Can anyone guess what I am going to use these to make?
Kirsten being amazing and working on my 500 piece puzzle which I intend to use in some shape or form.
Some of the detachable collars I have been working on!
Now, with this one, the intended purpose is to wear it underneath your collar, as shown below!
Exhibit A. Also the pile of collars, just because.
4 days to go until Parachute!

More Parachute goodness!

G'morning all!

How are you today? I am currently still in my pyjamas, debating which project to keep working on (I start many things and leave them unfinished, so that when I come back I am re-inspired).

Talking of inspiration - notice the 'hello, friend' button to your right? -->
This is where I get a lot of my inspiration from. Danni's blog is amazing.
Click on it. I dare you.

But first, I will share with you a few more photos of what I have been working on (with help from Brittany and my mummy!)...
This is my current work-space - set up in my brother's room now that he has moved out. Don't you just love the desk?! It was my grandparents, and I was always in awe of it as a child.
More work-space... I am going to be selling some of those pin-boards you can see in the background!
Lifeless owls in-the-making. To grasp an idea of the final size/shape/look of the owls, see below picture.
Britt put the owls into this egg carton... "They look like they are in their own forest!" was one uttering we spoke. They look so cute in this!!
Anyone guess what I am working on here??
Yay Brittany! She is a star, and even though she wasn't feeling 100% she offered a helping hand :)
Britt's hard work! These will be paper flags - I am going to use other types of paper also mixed in.
And this is the trial zip-up purse I made - it has a few faults and issues which I need to deal with before I can make another.
Last night I chatted to Larissa for ages on the phone, and we were talking about the day of departure and at the airport etc... man that girl knows how to freak me out! I'm so not looking forward to when they call me through to the departure lounge, and I have to say my final good-byes.
I am so not wearing any eye make-up for that.

Oh - if anyone wants to buy anything that you see (despite the fact everything is in bits and pieces currently), flick me an email, or leave a comment, and I might be able to give you a discount... :)

Screen Printing Inspiration

Just an update on my previous post, I am not going to be going to India in September, because University was too difficult to work around, but God has managed to outwork a better outcome! I am now heavily considering moving to Kolkata for a year to work for Freeset in February 2012! I am beyond excited at this prospect, as my heart just broke thinking I wouldn't get to India at all!

Now that I am remaining in New Zealand for the time being, I am having to refocus on my final semester - we are working on our Digital and Screen Printing media, as well as learning Illustrator and about Design Communication, and I am pretty happy that we are watching movies and studying them in theory! Good ones too: The Devil Wears Prada, Roman Holiday, Dracula, and Memoirs of a Geisha!

So I have begun to gather some images of inspiration for my Digital/Screen Printing/Illustrator classes to use as my stepping stones to get some designs flowing!

Here are my Screen-Printing images:

From this image above, I have found that I am quite inspired by the geometrical aspect to it, which is what I am using to spurn out further images related to it...

(Two separate links btw)
As you can see in this collection, there is a glorious amount of geometrical imagery and patterns going on, which look fantastic!

This is a nice colour palate, but I am wondering whether it will be best for what I am going for, as many S/S collections are brighter colours - although this is quite a soft, warm colour palate, which reminds me of quiet evenings in with a friend or two, chilling out with a nice dinner and wine, after a sun-blasted day. Oh Lordy, my imagery is embarrassing.

Image from Design*Sponge

I love this image above - it reminds me of the vibrant colours of India (I know, I am obsessed!). It's cool, because in our screen printing class, we have access to foils, so I can add metallic accents to my design (whatever it will be), so I can have elements similar to the above two images.

I saw this image on Tumblr, and it made me really want to incorporate flags/bunting into my design! It is an interesting concept, and I am thinking that if I am to focus on this idea, I would design for a wallpaper banner that runs along the wall horizontally (if you get what I mean?).

Another image on Tumblr, and this one has inspired me beyond the initial concept of a wallpaper banner featuring bunting, but if I am to pursue this idea, I think that I will add designs within the flags, similar to the above two images.

And this image I just love - I love the flags in the background, with the overlaying of a hand-drawn design - simple three-colour palate - perfect for screen printing!

So I will see how I can develop and intertwine the two concepts of geometrical designs, as well as the flags/bunting. I have to also decide what I will design for - be it S/S swimsuit, or a fabric for designers to use to create garments... or maybe even a bed-spread, a beach towel.... the possibilities are almost endless. The boundaries are only what I can screen-print onto successfully.

Quite a long post, but my way of being able to purge out some of my ideas and sort them out a bit (and now you might have an insight into my mind and how I process ideas and concepts!).

Hope winter is treating you well (down here in the Southern Hemisphere), and that the Northern Hemisphere gets ready for when we claim summer back! Not long now... haha.

Ta-ta for now.
